The Visual Legacy Foundation was set up in 2006 for the production of A Resistible Force, When Man Meets the Sea, a book about an ancient system of coastal defence on the south-western coast of the Netherlands.
In November 2005, inspired by author Pauline van Lynden's research and attention, the Province of Zeeland decided to add these breakwaters to its list of protected cultural heritage.

The Visual Legacy Foundation aims to promote awareness and protection of world cultural heritage by means of illustrated books and other visual media.
